i stand here at land’s end, the liminal space, the threshold.

i have gained much, i have lost even more. this chosen day means little in the Grand Scheme of Things, and yet it’s a significant blip in human consciousness. the precise day differed across cultures and among centuries of our innate urge to measure things, and i am no different.

i began this year a very different person than i am ending it. i suppose that’s the way it ought to be, and i’m proud of my accomplishments. i’ve logged many miles on horseback, many parades, many heartfelt conversations, many mountain climbs, many trails, many nights of good sleep, many antiques, many hours of contentedness.

i have lost much. three horses, a significant other, and my squad leader. the first have gone to fiddler’s green, the second has gone to hell and the third has gone to retirement. the world moves on, regardless, as it always has.

keep the light, worship the old gods.
